KGL(day 4)- By Payal Sharma

Writer: Payal SharmaPayal Sharma

The previous night all trekkers had been given a heads up by the trek leaders to be

Prepared for a tough day ahead—The most challenging day of KGL.

Gadsar pass situated at 13750 Ft was today’s piece of challenge and I had no choice but to take the challenge head on.

Second lake of the trek The Krishnasar lake lay ahead on the way to Gadsar.

It seemed as if we arrived at the Krishnasar lake even before expected as three days of strenuous ascent has now trained the mind to anticipate less— The most important rule life to remain happy.

The Krishnasar lake looked equally beautiful. The ripples caused by the winds made

The sun beam dance on the Crystal clear water of the lake. But it was from there that a complete view of the mountain that we were to climb, could be seen, and trust me, it

Scared the wits out of me. It was a long, steep climb with a narrow trail.

Some people wanted to take short cuts at that point but had to repent later. Mountains have their own way to tell you that there are no shortcuts to success.

The trail went on to become steeper and most trekkers became slower than ever.consequently we formed a train which apparently looked like the trail of busy ants questing after some sugar crystals . Walking slowly but steadily we reached a point which

Appeared to be the peak from far behind but what a deceit it was! The summit was still far-flung.

Only after a ten minutes of halt, we started marching again. The comforting words of our trek leader, Mr. Vishal Thakur, were music to the ears. He tried to convince us that we’ll reach Gadsar pass in next twenty minutes but deep down I knew these were false claims to keep us motivated. Anyhow, we finally scrambled up to reach Gadsar pass.

Soon as we set foot on the summit, the air was filled with loud chants of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ Sudden spurt in energy among the trekkers made an impression as if we had conquered Mt.Everest. The spirit of patriotism pumped up a new energy among the trekkers.

The twin lakes of Vishnusar and Krishnasar were clearly visible on one side of Gadsar Pass while on the other side was the valley covered with what was nearly manicured grass punctuated with wild flowers here and there

The next spectacle that awaited us was the awe inspiring Gadsar lake. The beauty of Gadsar lake was astounding. The sparkly blue waters with patches of ice, the silvery mountains behind the lake and the horizon beyond , transported me to some kind of utopian world where rainbow coloured butterflies savoured the nectar from the golden yellow flowers. I was lost in my Utopia when I was interrupted by voices calling out. It was time to leave the magical place. I dragged my body ahead leaving my soul behind.
